Bobby Vassallo recently visited Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin to discuss the need for emergency networks and Tsunami Warning systems in 2010. Bobby was struck by the sheer beauty of New Zealand. "The architecture in Christchurch was amazing. The famous city parks rival any in the world, and use of lands and quality of life and freedoms are tangible and immediately noticed. Do what you can to help Christchurch and its lovely people. Operation USA is always the best in these disasters," says Bobby Vassallo.SAN FRANCISCO - 1906

INDONESIA MONSTER QUAKE 7.7
HELP INDONESIA! GIVE TO said a 7.2 magnitude quake off Papua province, centered just 7 miles (12 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor, struck less than a minute after a 6.6 temblor in the same location.Several strong aftershocks followed. The quakes rocked the nearby islands of Tual and Dodo at around 2 a.m. local time as people were sleeping, police said, adding there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The region on Indonesia's easternmost edge is remote and sparsely populated.
Located 1,800 miles (2,900 kilometers) from the capital, Jakarta, the epicenter was closer to the northern Australian city of Darwin, which sits some 560 miles (900 kilometers) to the south. The Indonesian meteorological and geophysics agency issued a tsunami warning, but lifted it 90 minutes later after the threat had passed, said Fauzi, who heads the agency. In 2004, a famous giant quake kicked off a tsunami killing over 230,000 people here.
HAITI 7.0
CHILE 8.8
TURKEY 6.0
The recent earthquakes reminiscent of the famous 1960 Chile quake (largest ever recorded, worldwide) struck the Pacific Ocean near the coast of Chile early this morning (Feb. 27) and US authorities warned it was of the type to generate a tsunami. The quake epicenter of the 8.8 tremor, which occurred at 3:34 am local time (0634 GMT), was 91 kilometers (56 miles) north northeast of the Chilean town of Concepcion and 110 kilometers southwest from Talca, also in Chile, according to the US Geological Survey.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The US Pacific Tsunami warning center issued a tsunami warning for Chile and Peru, and a tsunami watch for Ecuador. It is not yet known if a tsunami has been caused but "an earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines within hours." Recent Earthquakes prays that won't occur.
The 1960 famous earthquake measured a 9.5 on the Moment Magnitude (Mw) scale, but registered only an 8.5 on the Ms scale. The temblor struck Concepcion, Chile late on Friday night according to the which places the quake just as one of the largest ever, worldwide. To put it in a little bit of perspective, the recent 7.0 earthquake in Haiti had a seismic energy yield of 32 megatons, while this 8.8 famous earthquake measured more than 5.6 gigatons. In the history of measuring these quakes, only the 8.5 in Sumatra, Indonesia in 2007, a 9.2 that happened in Anchorage in 1964, a 9.5 in Chile during 1960, and a 9.0 in Portugal in 1755 have been this big.
Recent Earthquakes is still waiting for more information about what has happened in Chile, a Tsunami warning has been issued, and there is sure to be a lot of damage from this quake. We will update as we learn more information about what has occurred. There is a report that a Tsunami has also been spotted, but most of the damage was in Japan. Other areas were fortunate a major wave was not created.
Bobby Vassallo was working on a Tsunami Alert System in Tahiti when the alerts came. He witnessed the event first-hand. "Nothing much to see, but tides going out. No big waves coming in, thankfully. Area Islands got it worse, but Japan most, says Vassallo."
The 9.5 magnitude famous earthquake that struck Chile back in 1960 killed a reported 1,655 people. Recent Earthquakes history pages tell the tale.Bobby Vassallo - La Jolla, CA -asks that you and your family prepare. There is a 100% chance of an earthquake today. Recent earthquakes prove it. Earthquake Preparedness is the only answer. Bobby says, "The big one is coming".
